Who can join the band?

• Musicians of all ages are welcome to join our band. We welcome woodwind and brass players and also percussionists.

• There is no audition or formal entry requirements, but we do recommend that you should have a playing ability of at least Grade 3 standard.

• We have a few vacancies that we are particularly eager to fill! These are: 3^rd Clarinet, Tuba, and Drum Kit (the band can provide a drum kit).

• We rehearse at Highfields Academy, Cumberland Avenue, Nantwich, CW5 6HA

• The school is well equipped with plenty of nearby parking.

• Rehearsals are fun and lively occasions, sometimes requiring hard work, and always educational. We meet every Wednesday evening and rehearsals start at 7.30pm and finish at 9.15pm. Members are asked to arrive around 10 minutes early to make sure they’re set up, tuned, and ready to start promptly.

• We are a mixed ability band. Some members have been playing their instrument for years, others are fairly new to their instrument. We recommend a minimum playing ability of grade 3; some of the music will be easier than this, some will be harder. If you can’t play everything that’s not a problem! All we ask is you try and practice. It’s OK to leave out the bits you can’t play.

• We play a wide variety of music, including hits from movies and musicals, popular music, original compositions for concert band, traditional pieces and marches, and of course, Christmas music!

• The band performs regularly in and around the Nantwich area. We play four formal concerts a year, usually in spring, summer, for remembrance and Christmas. In addition, we often play outdoor gigs throughout the summer, such as the Nantwich Food Festival.

• As a member, you will be provided with a full set of music, a band pencil and a tie or scarf to wear at performances. Additionally, you will be given access to the members area of our website and our WhatsApp Community group.

• We are a sociable and friendly band and often organise social events. We hold an annual Christmas party at the end of the year.  Other previous events include day trips to Llandudno and Harry Potter World and theatre visits to musicals.

• The band also has a range of instruments available to members for hire.

• Don't have your own instrument? No problem! Want to learn a new instrument? Exciting!

• The band owns a range of instruments that our members are able to hire; these range from flutes to tubas. We charge £6 a month for instrument hire. If you need to hire an instrument just let us know when you get in touch!

• Adult membership is £10 a month
• Under 18 membership is £6.25 a month

• New members are welcome at any time. Why not visit us at a rehearsal soon?

• We also regularly host open rehearsals where we strongly encourage new members to join us. These are usually held in January and September.

• Do you have a job / other committement that means you can't attend weekly rehearsals? We'd still love to hear from you. Let us know in advance and we'll make it work!
